Announcements

Final Exam: Wed. May 18th, 10:30 to 12:30
Marie Mount Hall, Room 1108-B

There is a final reading for everybody (Gleitman & Papafragou), which will be accompanied by a homework assignment due on the last day of class (Wed. May 9th). This is an encyclopedia article on language and thought and is an excellent review of our semester tour. It will form the basis of our final wrap-up discussion of the class on May 9th, and it will serve as a good review just before to the final exam.

Readings for the second set of student presentations are now posted and are ready for downloading. Presentation order will follow the order of the topics in class:

Monday May 2nd: Speech perception papers

If you are doing a speech perception paper, please talk with Lisa by Fri Apr 29th about your presentation.

Wednesday May 4th: Color papers

If you are doing a color paper, please talk with Andrea by Mon May 2nd

Monday May 9th: Everything else

Spatial Frames of Reference: Talk with Lisa by Fri. May 6th

Old Announcements

Homework #4 (the speech perception lab) is now posted. Please try to read through the instructions before coming to the CNL to meet with Lisa.

A note on homework 2: For the "do so" test, most people showed their test sentences but did not say whether the test sentences seemed grammatical or ungrammatical to them. Instead they just said what their conclusion was (argument or modifier). Since we did not explicitly ask for that in the exercise, we did not take points off for excluding it. However, that means we were not able to evaluate whether you understood the "do so" test. Therefore, if you have any doubts about how to use the test, please come see us or come to the review session.

Homework 2 was passed on Wed Feb 16th and is due Mon., Feb. 28th

Once you have successfully installed Trees onto your computer, you can play with it by following the instructions (at the same link as below) on "Opening the program" (#2) and "Drawing a Simple Tree with the Grammar 'Practice.gr' (#3)"

We agreed in class on Wed Feb 16th that the Mid-Term will be postponed 1 class period. The new date is Monday, March 7th

Everyone needs to install a piece of software onto their computers by Wed. Feb. 16th. Here are Instructions on finding, opening and running the Trees program. Please see Lisa if you need help with this installation.

Homework 1 was passed out Wed. Feb 2nd, and is due Mon., Feb 7th
