Maryland folks will be visiting the NSF Science of Learning Center on Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2) at Gallaudet University. This fall, they also have a brand new Brain and Language Lab (BL2) with fNIRS equipment. UMD students and faculty will have the chance to meet members of Gallaudet's departments of linguistics; psychology; hearing, speech, and language sciences; and interpretation.
This event is coordinated by Clifton Langdon, a Ph.D. student in linguistics at Gallaudet (who has been active in many IGERT events). Local questions can be addressed to So-One Hwang or Yakov Kronrod.
Here is the tentative schedule for the visit: 4:00-5:00pm : introduction of VL2, tour of the new BL2 lab and demonstration of fNIRS 5:00-6:00pm : networking with members from language-related departments ~6:30pm : happy hour on H St. or another location close-by
Interpreting will be arranged for both the tours and social event, and we want to make sure this event is fully accessible for everyone. This is a great opportunity to find out how you can start with sign language research and build future collaborations with the great folks at Gallaudet.
