At the Quality Inn you will not be living in the lap of luxury, but the rooms are recently renovated and the location is ery close to most of College Park's eateries, and 5 minute walk from the metro station for frequent subway service to downtown Washington DC. A 10 minute walk to the conference site, mostly through campus.
Alternative Options
Here are some alternatives. Among these, we would rate the Comfort Inn and the Best Western, both in College Park, as the preferred choices. They're not fancy, and they're on a busy street, but the rooms are clean, and they offer a free shuttle to campus (they're about a mile away). Their prices are also pretty good.
If you have any questions, please send an email to the accommodations organizer, Eri Takahashi.
TravelAir Travel
College Park is close to three major airports that serve the Washington DC area.
Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
Reagan is located in downtown Washington DC. There is a good Washington DC Metro connection between DCA and College Park. Taxi service to College Park costs approximately $40.00. Super Shuttle is also a convenient option. Price $25 + $8 per additional person.
Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)
BWI has mostly domestic connections, but with a few direct international connections, e.g. to the UK. It often offers the cheapest flights. There is a regular $3 Metrobus service from BWI to the Greenbelt Metro Station, which is only one stop away from College Park. Taxi service to College Park costs approximately $55.00. Super Shuttle is also a convenient option. Price $23 + $10 per additional person.
Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Dulles is the main international hub in the region. Ground transportation to College Park is least easy from Dulles. Options are taxi or shuttle van (International Express Shuttle, Super Shuttle), or bus-and-metro combination. The Washington Flyer bus regularly connects Dulles to the West Falls Church stop on the Orange Line of the Washington DC Metro. Taxi service to College Park costs approximately $65.00. Super Shuttle is also a convenient option. Price $35 + $8 per additional person. Another option might be to take a cab to the closest metro station (West Falls Church, Orange Line).
Train
AMTRAK offers train service to Wasington-Union Station, DC (WAS), or New Carollton, MD (NCR).
From either station you can then take the Washington DC Metro, or a taxi to College Park.
Metro
If you arrive at the College Park Station on the Green Line of the Washington DC Metro, you can take a cab or a short walk to the Quality Inn (10 minutes).
Driving
Here are some driving directions to campus. And here is a link to a PDF Campus Map. The UM campus is on US Route 1, just 5 minutes drive from the intersection of I-95 with the Washington DC Beltway (I-495).
Here is a link to the University's visitors page, which also includes air, train, and road directions (it even describes metro transfers).
UMD Shuttle
Mayfest participants can use the UMD shuttle bus on campus, and to- and from- metro station, without any IDs, for free!
