We invite you!
If you are a parent, we would like to extend an invitation to you and your
child to participate in an interesting set of studies on normal child development.
-
We each bring over 10 years of research experience to the study
of language and cognitive development in infants, toddlers, preschoolers,
and school-aged children.
-
Our studies take place in a comfortable, home-like setting at the
University of Maryland’s College Park campus.
-
Parents participate with their children and are near to their child
at all times during the visit.
What will happen during your visit?
-
We schedule appointments for you to participate at a time convenient
for your schedule.
-
Appointments are usually less than an hour, and we observe how
your child responds to new objects and events.
-
During the session, which lasts between 15 minutes and an hour,
we observe how the child responds to new objects and events.
-
For example, we may show events on a puppet stage or monitor, and
record which events your child pays attention to, or we may see
how your child listens to different sentences and whether these
influence what he looks at. At some ages, your child may be asked
to reach for a toy, put something in a box, or decide if a puppet
answered a question correctly.
-
Parking is free and children receive a small gift to take home
with them.
-
Parents enjoy the opportunity to play with their child and observe
the session in a relaxed environment.
