Project on Children's Language Learning
Lab Visit and Directions
A visit to the lab
- During the session, which lasts about 15 minutes, we observe how the child responds to new objects and events.
- For example, we may observe your child playing with new toys, or we may show the child events on a puppet stage or video monitor, and record how long he or she looks at them based on the questions we ask.
- Parking is free and children receive a small gift to take home with them.
- Parents enjoy the opportunity to play with their child and observe the session in a relaxed environment.
Directions to the lab
From North (via I-95)
Follow I-95 south until it reaches the Capital Beltway and splits into two directions. First follow the signs for I-495 West towards Silver Spring (Exit 27), but stay out of the rightmost lane. Before joining the Beltway proper, take a left exit towards College Park/Route 1. This exit is rather winding, but after following it around a number of turns you reach Route 1 South (Exit 25B). Continue south on Route 1 for about 2 miles. When Route 1 intersects with Paint Branch Parkway/Campus Drive, turn right into the main entrance to the campus.
From East, South & West (via I-495 Capital Beltway)

From Downtown Washington DC via Metro
Please notify us in advance if you plan to take the metro instead of driving so we can direct you to an appropriate meeting place.
Parking for The Project on Child Language Learning is at Marie Mount Hall (Building 046), adjacent to the University Chapel, at the lower end of the main Mall of the University of Maryland. The Lab is in Marie Mount Hall (Building 046). Enter the university campus on Campus Drive (from Route 1, see directions above). Follow Campus Drive to the big "M" traffic circle and take the third exit, onto Regents Drive. After passing the end of the University Mall, turn right onto Chapel Drive. Marie Mount Hall is the first building on the right on Chapel Drive. To reach the lab parking space, turn into the first parking lot on your right, by Marie Mount Hall.
